  • What is the difference between a sports and a deep tissue massage?
There is really no difference between a sports massage and deep tissue massage in terms of techniques. I am trained in sports and deep tissue massage so you can specify on the day in your consultation the pressure and reason for booking (e.g. de-stress full-body deep tissue or a deeper massage focusing on a specific area).
  • Will the massage hurt?
Everyone is different so please communicate with me what you are looking for. There may be some amount of discomfort and soreness after, which is normal. The most important thing is to let me know what is most comfortable for you.
  • What should I do/not do after a massage?
Drinking water is always a good idea after a massage and don't over exert yourself after a massage, like going to the gym or for a run. You may be a little tired after, especially if you haven't had one for a while!
  • How many treatments will I need?
I am asked this question a lot and often unable to give a straight answer as it depends on too many variables. My best advice is to have two treatments close together (say one/two weeks apart) and judge how far you have improved between them as every body responds differently, every lifestyle varies and also the time the injury has been present affects the response to treatment.
  • I have not had a massage before - what should I expect?
You would usually be required to undress to your underwear and I will drape large towels or blankets over you, respecting your privacy and uncovering only the area that is being treated. Shorts are not ideal as it makes it difficult to access the top of the hamstrings, glutes and legs, which is a common problematic area for lower back pain. However if you prefer to wear them that is okay.
  • What can I expect at my first treatment?
When you come for your first treatment I will take a confidential case history. This will enable me to discuss any symptoms you may have and also to check your general health background and any possible “contraindications” to deep tissue and sports massage. I will do a detailed examination and assessment so that we can pinpoint the problem and swiftly address the injury. Each treatment is then tailored to the individual and the initial assessment helps to develop a treatment programme for your individual requirements.
